    Basetrack.org

If you’ve never heard of Basetrack.org before, it’s a war journalism blog about the US Afghanistan operations, as told through the eyes of the photojournalists in the field that have been chronicling the Marine 1/8, as they were deployed and the aftermath. Rather than just a staid, sanitized “pop” war coverage, it brings a more personable view to it is worth checking out.

    N.B.

Even Jane Wells has posted about it! (Although, from the perspective of how WordPress was used, technically…) :-)

And here’s the video from WordCamp San Francisco, where Teru gets a chance to talk about Basetrack.org:

Colbert Bump is At It Again: Reince Priebus Becomes RNC Chairman

Remember how Friend of Javamancy mini, Stephen Colbert, enjoys wielding his considerable political might to change the tides of fortune in various political arenas? Well, a few episodes of the Colbert Report ago, Stephen had promoted his candidate Reince to be the RNC Chairman.

So, now, Stephen is apparently not just a kingmaker, but also a RNC-Chairmaker. ;-)

Save Some Starbucks Disposable Cups, Bring Your Own Mug Day

Tomorrow, celebrating either the US tax return filing deadline (April 15) or resources preservation, Starbucks [SBUX] is offering free coffee to pour into the mug that you bring in with you to their stores.

Now, there is some dispute whether this also applies to coffee drinkers who usually obtain multiple coffee refills in the course of a day, or even any given hour. :-)

Still, it’s a nice offer and a good gesture to the community.

    Ada Lovelace Day

Just in time to wrangle over the bits ‘n pieces left around the U.S. healthcare reform legislation: today is the second celebrated/marked Ada Lovelace Day!

Ada Lovelace was reported to have died from excessive bloodletting, which may have been triggered by a diagnosis of uterine cancer.

No, March 24 was not the day Ada Lovelace was purported to have died. Not actually sure why that day was selected.

    Virginia Still #1 for Business

According to CNBC’s special on its US state rankings for business favorability and competitiveness, Virginia is the #1 state based upon its evaluation system, for the second year in a row.

    Wow!

    Barack Obama, the Fly-Killer…

In the outtakes of the interview between a CNBC reporter and President Obama on the current economic conditions, there was an annoying fly buzzing around. Obama almost casually reached out and smacked it dead.

    Shazam!

Ah, the ephemeral zen of the moment… Priceless.
