Starting today is Starbucks’ [SBUX] free Wi-Fi service, which leverages the existing AT&T [T] based Wi-Fi hotspots for the general Starbucks audience, not just the Starbucks Rewards and AT&T Wireless customers.
So, when you’re waiting in line for your grande no-foam skinny two-pump-dolce extra-hot latte with your blinged-out Droid smartphone, you now can switch to the Wi-Fi hotspot and keep browsing. 
Ever wonder about some of those event postings on the Starbucks [SBUX] WiFi login screen? Well: surprise-surprise! Tonight’s Washington, DC Drupal meetup has an event entry on the Starbucks launch screen.
What’s interesting about this Drupal meetup is that the recent World Bank unveiling of its human development data core to the public is a big highlight of the meeting, with some World Bank folks discussing the new data.worldbank.org site and how they feel its data will impact new and ongoing services.
The festivities, such as they are, kick off at 7:00 PM tonight. More details may be found at the Groups.Drupal site.
Tomorrow, celebrating either the US tax return filing deadline (April 15) or resources preservation, Starbucks [SBUX] is offering free coffee to pour into the mug that you bring in with you to their stores.
Now, there is some dispute whether this also applies to coffee drinkers who usually obtain multiple coffee refills in the course of a day, or even any given hour.
Still, it’s a nice offer and a good gesture to the community.
Hot on the tail of the newly retooled Starbucks [SBUX] Rewards program, there’s more news that the coffee retailer is planning another price hike, up to 35¢ per item, presumably mostly along the prepared beverages.
How do you like your Starbucks [SBUX] coffee? Instant-like, or the traditional fresh-brewed?
Drop by your local Starbucks and try the “taste test” to see if you can discern the difference between the standard drip coffee and their newly-launched Via coffee.
Finally, this afternoon, several of the local Starbucks [SBUX] storefronts have placed the new-ish Starbucks Mini Cards out for display… and for your use!

FYI: At Starbucks stores, there will be tastings for the new Via coffee, running from October 2, 2009 through October 5, 2009. Some will even offer you a free tall drip coffee!

For trying the Via, you can get a small booklet with a couple of coupons in it: one is for a free tall drip coffee, and the other is a $1.00 off on a Via packet.
