Second Snowstorm is Over
So, after all the hubbub and media coverage (both from local outlets and nationwide), the second snowstorm is done! Whew!
Now comes the snow shoveling extravaganza… once again.
So, after all the hubbub and media coverage (both from local outlets and nationwide), the second snowstorm is done! Whew!
Now comes the snow shoveling extravaganza… once again.
Here’s a WTOP online news article about the snowstorm that began yesterday and still raging this morning:
It seems that a lot of local news outfits are now reporting about the really bad whiteout and the tremendous quantity of traffic accidents (and incidents, too)…
Definitely dangerous out there! And some people are once again experiencing power outages.
Now that the sun has risen in the Washington, DC area, you can look outside and see… nothing but white!
… And you can hear the howling of the high winds.
Yes, folks, it appears that what this second Mega Blizzard may not have in terms of chart-topping snow depth, it will definitely compensate by having intense high winds that reduce visibility to virtually nothing. If you have no legitimate business outdoors, please stay inside!
Hey, you’re right! I woke up and looked outside. More snow. More mess. More shoveling. (groan)
The snowfall began a couple of hours ago, and unlike the start of the previous Mega Blizzard of 2010, this one has a greater intensity that, coupled with a stronger wind cycle, will probably cause a lot of trouble for people who like to drive their vehicles in the dark without their headlights and often without regard to their fellow drivers. Heck, it’s going to be trouble for everybody in the Washington, DC area with such cavalier disregard for others running rampant since the last snowstorm, especially during the mad scramble for food and emergency supplies over the past couple of weeks.
Although the region is struggling through the consequences of the first Mega Blizzard of 2010, there is another one reported to be entering the area, with perhaps a third coming in a few days after this new one…
Time to stock up again.
It’s definitely a mess out there on the roads in the Washington, DC area. At least, it certainly is in many areas in the Northern Virginia region.
If you don’t need to be driving outside, please don’t: leave the roads open for emergency vehicles and the snow plows.
We all know that there are many individuals in the area who enjoy driving during the morning rush hour just for the heck of it: they’re not commuting to work, but they just enjoy congesting the highways and byways to occupy their time, as a twisted sort of pastime. Today is NOT the day to do this, folks.
It seems that the snowing has stopped!
Unbelievable! Incredible!
But does that mean I should set aside Dragon Age: Origins now, and pick up my snow shovels?
The snowfall coming down now seems much more dense, but the snowflakes have now taken on a larger size overall. This may indicate a “drier” type of snow– with less moisture– leading to a lighter density.
The mega-snowstorm inclement weather today is also a good opportunity to focus on a lot more Web application projects here…
Remember the Tell.IM URL shortening service? Well, the work on it has been proceeding quite well since it was launched a few weeks ago, and I suspect we’re getting very close toward a closed beta launch. Some of you have mentioned that you’ve seen a test tweet go out already: yes, that was from the public-private test bed, and if you had followed the URL, you probably noticed that it works, leading to either Javamancy proper or here to Javamancy mini, depending on which URL you received.

Note how the blizzard warning has been extended until later this evening.
And how odd it is that the story mentions the start of the blizzard warning as 10 AM… since the story was posted earlier today, and just by looking out the window, it’s obvious that the blizzard has been with us already…

Steve, I’m amazed you see such quirks in stories so quickly. I’m glad you pointed it out because I was confused at first by the post on that site.

Thanks! Hope you’re taking it easy at home instead of venturing out!
(I’m guessing that you’re a fellow DC “regioner”…)
