    The iPhone 4

Finally, the numbering scheme for Apple’s [AAPL] flagship communications device has been simplified again, for the general masses. ;-)

Soon, the news about the new iPhone 4, which had the hubbub earlier this year “pop up” about a lost proof-of-concept model (or was is really a prototype, when all is said and done about it?), will be rolling out in a press conference from Apple later today.

In addition to the device itself, there will most likely be some mention of the iPhone OS 4, the new operating system slated for release to not just the iPhone, but also the iPod touch and iPad platforms.

If many of the Mac-native or even Java client apps aren’t being reassembled into iPad apps, then the market for cloud-centric Web apps may be much-much-much larger and more significant than people have previously thought.

Remember when there initially wasn’t a publicly available iPhone SDK for developers to build iPhone and iPod touch apps? :-)

Sure, the Android based phones have been out for quite some time now…

But the curiosity and excitement around Google’s [GOOG] Nexus One smartphone seems to be reaching a, sort of, fever pitch.

Makes you wonder whether Apple [AAPL] will have some new iPhone/iPod touch news to deliver that will take some of the shine away from Nexus One… Or perhaps the hotly anticipated news about a Mac tablet form factor will grab the spotlight…

    iPod Touch to Get Camera?

Cult of Mac reports a rumor that perhaps Apple’s [AAPL] iPod touch and the iPod nano will be getting either a still camera or the combined still-and-video camera that recently debuted in the recent iteration of the iPhone 3GS. The story based this on images from China-based manufacturers for cases designed for the two media devices that have apertures that are approximately the size and shape for lenses for supposed cameras.
