    Modern Warfare 3 & Moleskine

I never thought I’d mention Call of Duty or Modern Warfare, with something like my favorite scribble-bed, Moleskines, together… And yet, here they are.

MW3's content-packed journal, flanked by my red Moleskine notebook and my black Moleskine graphbook.

Yes, you finally get to see my current brace of bona fide Moleskines– I’m in my red-colored cycle for the lined journals, and the black spined-type cycle for the graph books. The notebook in between my Moleskines is, of course, the commemorative Moleskine-like journal included in the Modern Warfare 3 Hardened Edition set. It actually strongly resembles one of the black-covered squared Cahier format, albeit with really tiny grid rule, in case you’re interested in getting your own and starting your own writing epic about Modern Warfare 3. ;-)

    Modern Warfare 3: Hardened Edition

    Yep, I got it.

Sometimes you just have that hankering for the action that the Call of Duty franchise is renowned for. Modern Warfare 3 looks like it won’t disappoint, even after the hot prestiging action and ice-cold zombie blasting that Black Ops has become well-known for. And if you know me, you know how much zombie-slaying I’ve done. ;-)

So, on launch day, I picked up Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3… the Hardened Edition.

Be the Grand Winner, Earn the Elite Poker Set

Yes, one of the nice things about the Call of Duty Elite service is that you can volunteer to participate in one of several competitions online, via the Multiplayer modes. Tomorrow, at 11:00 AM PDT, it appears that the grand winner for the Core Capture the Flag matches will get the Elite Poker Set.

    Nice! :-)

... and here are the terms of the competition... if you dare...

    Action-Packed Weekend?

    Wow…

First, the news that Amazon [AMZN] will be preparing to roll out their Android-based 7″ Kindle Tablet… That’s quite a bit o’ buzz. The market cornered by the Barnes & Noble’s [BN] Nook Color anti-neo-hybrid reader/tablet is about to get a shot across its bow, courtesy of Amazon. And this is well in advance of anything that Google [GOOG] itself may have thought to launch. They’ll probably even have a press conference, or at least a press release about it. To make an impact, it’d have in ready inventory supply before the holiday shopping season to pick up the target audience of people looking for an iPad alternative, a more amenable reader, and/or a secondary/tertiary/quarternary tablet device.

Second, in light of the PC and Sony [SNE] PlayStation 3 release of the Rezurrection DLC, Call of Duty Black Ops will have another Double XP + Nuketown 24/7 Weekend on XBox LIVE!

Third, there’s still time to wrap up the Halo Reach Weekly Challenge on XBox LIVE!

Fourth, there’s that new Red Dead Redemption “Myths & Mavericks” DLC, with its hardcore matches now available on XBox LIVE! And to top it off, there’s a Triple XP Weekend for em>Red Dead Redemption until Sunday!

    Enjoy! :-)

    Flurries for Christmas

As we are ensconced here, in the early morning hours of Christmas Day 2010, there are snow flurries falling silently to the ground outside, as we once more march into the breach in the mega-massive cloud of Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer matches.

    Initial Reporting on “Black Ops”

Of course, you knew this was going to happen: round-ups of round-ups of reviews about Call of Duty: Black Ops. It seems de rigeur at this point, so why not toss one out– not a bad summarization, from PCWorld.

And, of course, anybody having fun blasting away zombies yet?

    Black Ops: Sleep Slayer?

Did Call of Duty fans get any sleep last night?

Apparently, the folks who attended the midnight launches and grabbed their copies of the latest installment in the game, Call of Duty: Black Ops, may actually still be awake, churning through the new multi-player game modes, or achievement hunting by blasting through the campaign modes.

    Any zombie hunting out there?

How to Iteratively Delete .svn Directories: The Debate

Oooh, this is odd… a one-liner for deleting .svn “files”, but with a potential bug…

Adam Bien posted about a one-liner UNIX command that he found to “remove all .svn files”.

It’s close, and it definitely resembles an old DevPal script that did the same thing– which is to iteratively delete .svn files from a given location.

But the UNIX rm command– which is found on many different UNIX-like systems, including Linux– has a maximum limit to the size of the in-memory graph of parameters it will accept. Once it exceeds that limit, it will stop parsing along the submitted parameters and just die.

    N.B.

I’ll post a bit more about this over at Javamancy later… acquiring that infamous Wonderwaffe x 3 achievement in CoD:WaW under harrowing solo conditions has been quite a trip. ;-)

And if you are wondering how to activate those newest CoD:WaW achievements: you’ll have to download the Map Pack 3 DLC from Xbox LIVE.

Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack 3 — Der Riese

    Whoo-hoo! Mega-zombie-slaughterfest!

Once again, there are more Achievements and Achievement Points to earn…

But it really gets scarier now… I’ve noticed that my lone character seems to have gotten even slower during walking (and running) and a bit sluggish on turns and spins… and the zombies have learned how to dodge, climb, jump, and leap around on the map!

There are a couple of workflows that function fairly well if you are out to quickly activate the power… But what about the power-up slot machine?
