A few days ago, WordPress 2.8.1 was released to the public with surprisingly little fanfare. In fact, for many bloggers, it seemed as if the auto-update message in their WordPress admin consoles did not trigger for a few days after the release.
Regardless, this release has a lot of security-related bug fixes, and it is generally recommended for WordPress 2.8 sites.
