The Preface
No, it’s not a machine that cuts down lousy cars!
The Setup
Sure, it’s really tough these days, with the massive, life-crushing economic collapses all around you. And sure, you really should be saving your money for those really critical needs: food, rent/mortgage, high-interest debts, underwear, coffee beverages…
But you really love your Roomba. It moves on its predetermined path. It returns to its base station to recharge when it needs to. It frightens your small pets. It amuses your kids. And, with the special adapter on its dorsal surface, it can shuttle your drink to and from the refrigerator.
So, you’ve been wondering: why not have a Roomba for your lawn?
The Premise
Take Roomba-like functionality, mix in optional capabilities (like solar recharging, calling your mobile phone when it’s done its work, anti-theft alarms, skipping non-lawn areas, etc.), and there you go: the Automower! Husqvarna [HSQVY] offers not one, but several models of the Automower for your consideration, each with differentiating features.
The Action
While the premise is fantastic, I wonder whether it is something that one would acquire merely one to tackle, say, their townhouse’s patch o’ grass. If there is a lot of grass that readily requires maintenance, the Automower may be the way to go, especially if the lawn surface area is well understood and generally easy to navigate. It is certainly a timesaver.
A feature that it appears the Automower does not have is the ability to control/manage other automated or remote controlled items, such as garage doors or remote door locks. If the Automower would be able to secure itself in a garage, for instance, but at the appointed time, trigger the garage door and leave to mow the grass, while closing the door behind it, and then on the return trip, open and close the door to park itself… whoa, excellent! Right?
