This year, CTIA Wireless 2009 is being held April 1 – 3, 2009 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, as opposed to last year’s venue.
Given the dominance that Apple [AAPL] has demonstrated in the mobile device application development arena, it would certainly be surprising to see how many competitors will rise to the challenge by providing better support than they have shown historically to the developer community. After all, it’s not difficult to understand why the iPhone 3G and iPod touch constitute such a strong “dynamic duo” as a platform opportunity, and in several cases a platform of choice, for developers.
But software alone is not the sole answer: hardware and services round out the picture, and various vendors at this event will certainly attempt to draw comparisons and parallels to Apple’s offerings on all three fronts. However, the buzz around technology was quite muted last year, and it seems that perhaps that downplaying will probably continue at this year’s event.
