In a heart-wrenching (and stock trading halt) turn of events, Apple’s [AAPL] Steve Jobs announced today that he will be stepping aside for a medical leave of absence, at least until June 2009.
Remember when I tossed out a few possible organ systems that Steve may be struggling with? Well, since that post, quite a few of you have reached out and just asked, “Steve, are you referring to the ‘Big C’, that the Other Steve may have?”
I’m not going to make a definitive diagnosis (since I’m not the Other Steve’s primary physician, and in fact, I haven’t run into him in many, many years). But let me emphasize that disorders that impact the certain organ systems, or cross multiple systems, may impose undue stress on the entire body, so getting a significant amount of rest and relaxation may help, as well as periodic reassessments and medication adjustments. Also keep in mind that certain medications may only be administered IV, and carting around an IV stand or perfusion machine around the workplace is unwieldy at best.
Let’s wish the Other Steve the very best, folks.
N.B.
Oh, and other more thing, (Other) Steve: please give some more thought about having a 12.1″ MacBook to replace my vintage 12.1″ PowerBook. Thanks, guy. And let me know if you want to catch up sometime… maybe grab lunch over here– you may get a kick out of the new town center nearby.

Around 5:00 PM EST, the trading halt was removed from AAPL, to see the stock drop several points on the news on the Other Steve’s medical LOA.
Apparently, CNBC is going to have an emergency show special on the Other Steve at 8:00 PM EST tonight, because of this news.
