As we’ve seen mentioned here earlier, the Macworld Expo 2009 has had to launch while contending with the lack of Steve Jobs as an official keynote speaker this year and the news that Apple [AAPL] will withdraw their official attendance next year. But, the mega Mac Daddy of trade shows is also kicking off this week, with its official start tomorrow (January 8, 2009) and lasting until January 11, 2009.

This is, of course, CES for 2009. Or more formally, the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2009.

Now, in the past, it’s been a mecca for new things gadget-y. But lately, a lot of service and content providers have made showings here as well. This year, that trend continues, and the onward march of converging devices with services (and vice-versa, depending on how you look at it) continues unabated as well.

A lot of folks have had the opportunity to hop to Las Vegas, this year’s site, from San Francisco– where Macworld Expo is– so I’d imagine that the coverage (and comparisons) of things to do and see may be inevitable. ;-)

Quite an interesting time in the IT industry, as major players shuffle around, new entrants try to jostle for their own niches, and hapless employees continue to get laid off– in some cases, getting their proverbial pink slips while attending these conferences and trade shows!
