Remember the previous Microsoft [MSFT] Xbox 360 price drop? The first mention on Javamancy was back on July 2, 2008; the second post occurred on July 12, 2008.
Well, a lot of folks have been bouncing around rumors of further price reductions. A lot of it was previously due to the pricing discrepancy between the “older” 20 GB Pro version, compared to the “revised” 60 GB Pro version, of the Xbox 360.
So, here’s the second round! Major Nelson’s blog reports the following price cuts:
- Xbox 360 Arcade Edition: USD $199 (down from about $280)
- Xbox 360 (the standard 60 GB one, formerly known as Pro Edition): USD $299 (down from $349)
- Xbox 360 Elite Edition: USD $399 (down from $449)
These price reductions are expected to take effect starting September 5, 2008.
While this is great news for you, gentle readers, it also poses a bit of a problem for you fashion-forward folks, since Fashion Week 2008 also starts in NYC on September 5th. Then again, a lot of tech-forward folks do consider game consoles as critical fashion accessories!
Given that the continuing production efficiencies have commoditized the game consoles themselves, the big money continues to be in the game and online content available for the various ‘machines. And, of course, the online subscriptions, like for Xbox LIVE. It’d be quite a pleasant surprise if the Xbox LIVE Gold Subscription dropped in price (or even became 100% free), since there’s a LOT of advertising appearing on the network these days.

Hmm… Which is more important, getting a few Xbox 360 consoles for home (and maybe even the office), or keeping track of Fashion Week with your iPhone and iPod touches?
And let’s not forget the 9/9/2008 Apple product announcements!
