Oops!
The 2008 Olympics officially start on August 8, 2008, but… the international games actually began earlier today (August 6, 2008) with women’s soccer (U.S. vs. Norway), and will continue with men’s soccer tomorrow, prior to the opening ceremony.
Weird Chinese shenanigans, you think? No, not exactly– just that there is not enough time in the schedule otherwise to include every participant in the tournament structure.
So, you can enjoy the results of the Olympics before waiting all the way until the 8th.
N.B.
By the way, the Americans lost to the Norwegians, 2-0.

If you wander over to the Beijing 2008 Olympics website (http://en.beijing2008.cn/), you’ll notice that they mark “-2″ and “-1″ on their timeline indicator to denote the unofficial start of the event.
